Modalities

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) - The basis of CBT includes understanding our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. An event impacts our thoughts, in return, our emotions and behaviors are also impacted. If unchecked, it can lead to a vicious cycle of harmful behaviors and negative intrusive thoughts. Practicing understanding this cycle and reframing situations can assist with multiple mental health issues through this modality of CBT.

ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) - ACT is an action-based form of therapy. There are areas in which we can and cannot control within our life and recognizing the differences can ease stress in one's life. ACT assists with radical acceptance, seeing the situation for what it is, and working on committing to your values.

IFS (Internal Family Systems) - IFS is an evidenced-based approached that sees ourselves as a system. A system with many different parts that make up our personality. Much of the internal struggles we face are known as "protectors". They are built up over time to protect us and is often mistaken for our "true self". Our "true self" is that part of us that displays, compassion, curiosity, creativity, calmness, confidence, courageous and connectedness. IFS is used to get in tune with our "true self" as well as bring compassion to our "protectors". If you have ever said, "Part of me wants to do this but another part of me doesn't", according to IFS, you experienced a struggle within your own internal family system.

DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) - DBT is often used when experiencing strong emotions. Skills and techniques to learn are grounding techniques, breathing techniques and finding ways to get you in the present moment. Learning evidenced based DBT skills can make our emotions manageable when they otherwise feel overwhelming.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) - EFT is used to assist with trauma through tapping on one's meridian points on the body. This is a way to release the tension carried in the body and provide the opportunity to reach a state known as trauma related growth.

MI (Motivational Interviewing) - Motivational Interviewing is an excellent modality to be used when experiencing ambivalence to change. The four main stages within MI is Empathy, Self-Efficacy, Rolling with Resistance, and Developing Discrepancy.
